Tell us about it >
Once my husband and I had made the decision to adopt a greyhound, we contacted the Celia Cross Greyhound Trust near Guildford and, after a ‘home visit’ from their staff, we arrived at the kennels to meet the dogs they had short-listed for us.

At that point Rosy, a beautiful black bitch with a mohican/ punk hairstyle, jumped up at the gate to introduce herself. Clearly she had decided that this was going to be her lucky day and she was right. An hour later, the necessary paper work had been completed and Rosy, newly ‘microchipped’, was lying full stretch on the living room floor, luxuriating in the smell of our Chinese takeaway.

Greyhounds have a difficult upbringing and one thing they have usually not been taught is how to climb stairs. Rosy was a quick learner and, 5 minutes after her adopted mum and dad had retired upstairs, she joined us in her new bedroom.

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They incredibly affectionate and loyal and need just 20 minutes exercise, twice a day. They’re also very playful, when they’re not flat out asleep!

The only drawback is their tendency to become anxious when their owners are out. And that’s why we decided to adopt a friend for Rosy.

Peanut entered our lives 5 months after we adopted Rosy. She’s a red fawn (beige) bitch and just as beautiful although quite a different character. Initially, Peanuts was a bag of nerves, jumping at any noise and running away from men. SInce then, she has become Rosy’s best mate and, we think, the most affectionate dog in the world.
Rosy and Peanut have changed our life. Not a moment goes by when they are not in our thoughts or in our sight and they never miss an opportunity for a ‘treat’ or a cuddle. We would recommend adopting a rescue dog to anyone.
