In support of The Pedigree® Adoption Drive, Pedigree® is proud to announce its sponsorship of ‘Dog Rescue’, a new 6-part series for ITV1, will give an in depth insight into the work involved in helping homeless dogs.

'Dog Rescue' follows two of the UK’s busiest dog rescue and rehoming centres; The Manchester Dogs Home and The Dogs Trust Centre in Uxbridge, Middlesex. The centres will open their doors to reveal the hard work that the staff and volunteers undertake to ensure that our four-legged friends are given the best possible chance of a new and happy life.

As abandoned dogs arrive at the centres, sometimes in distressing and life-threatening conditions, the cameras will follow their stories and those of the people caring for them. The dedicated professionals at these centres work hard to raise funds for the centres and go into the community to educate the public on animal welfare issues.

We will also follow the work of Dog Wardens, who are in the front line when it comes to dog rescue, whether the dogs have been neglected, treated violently or have owners that simply can’t cope any more.

Will pregnant Whitney have
to give birth to her pups on the streets of Manchester?

Many of the dogs in the centres have heart wrenching and upsetting histories, but hopefully with the help of the centres they will find a loving home. The aim in all cases is for the animal to be re-homed, which can be a trying time for the staff who can become emotionally involved with the animals in their care.

Celebrity dog lovers such as Wendy Richard and Sherrie Hewson will also appear in the series. Sherrie will be judging a Dog Show which is being held to raise awareness and funds for The Manchester Dogs Home, whilst Wendy and her partner John bring their much loved pooch, Lilly along to The Dog’s Trust for some behavioural classes.

Tune in to ITV1 at 4.30pm on Sunday 9th March for the emotional first episode.
